Il Nemico by Caterina Davinio

This video was featured at 47th Venice Biennale in 1997 as a part of VeneziaPoesia, collateral exhibition curated by Nanni Balestrini, and in 1999 in Italian Pavlion.
Being the first woman who worked in genre of electronic literature and poetry in Italy she was influenced by Fluxus and almostly inevitable by Italian Futurism especially Luigi Russolo’s “L’arte dei rumori” (1913) and Filippo Tommazo Marinetti’s falling shell sound. Il Nemico or The Enemy shows the ultimate power of noise in junction with video recorded vowels “O!” and phrases like “I can’t remember the last vowel, but I knew what was unhappily said a while ago”. Letters and parts of inscriptions and capacious words gleamed like tabloid articles.
